Aloha Kahalu`u Ward, This week, September 21 & 22, marks the 200th anniversary of Moroni's first visit to a 17 year old Joseph Smith. This was 3 years after his First Vision of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He would be visited and taught by Moroni that night, 4 times. Joseph then met with Moroni, each year on September 22 on Hill Cumorah to continue to learn the things he would need to know to usher in the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 4 years after Moroni's first visit, on September 22, 1827 Joseph received the golden plates from Moroni. President Nelson taught "On his first visit, Moroni told Joseph Smith that “there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent. … the fulness of the everlasting gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants.” Joseph Smith translated this ancient record “by the gift and power of God.” This record is known today as the Book of Mormon." I'm so grateful for the Book of Mormon and its role in the restored Church. The guidance I receive in my life from knowing what my Heavenly Father wants me to do to become more than I am, strengthens me when I am weak, brings me joy when I am down and encourages me to share that joy with those around me. The book of Mormon and this year's study of the New Testament has strengthened my testimony of the Living Christ and His Church on the earth today and the prophet that he has called to teach, guide and lead us.
