Aloha Kahalu'u Ward,
I was excited to have our two older kids attend the Kahalu’u High Adventure this week in Maui. As the week went on, I couldn't help but miss them and wonder what they are doing and how they are doing? A couple of times, I would get a quick 1 min call from one of them to tell me that they are alive and having a good time as the reception was bad. This week gave me a small glimpse of what an “empty nest” would feel like in the near future. A few times I wanted to yell from my bedroom to Benny to feed the dog, only to realize I had to do it myself. I also thought about how our Father in Heaven must feel when he sends his spirit children to earth. I'm sure just like me or any other parent, He is worried and excited for all the trials, success and experiences they will gain in this earthly life. Just like how I was waiting for a phone call or text message from my two children, our Father in Heaven is waiting for us to reach out to him through prayer to communicate with him. I was also thinking how happy our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ would be as we return home to them full of life experiences that we hold close to our hearts.
Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in a 2024 General conference talk titled “God’s Intent to Bring You Home” stated:
“My friends, my fellow disciples on the road of mortal life, our Father’s beautiful plan, even His “fabulous” plan, is designed to bring you home, not to keep you out. No one has built a roadblock and stationed someone there to turn you around and send you away. In fact, it is the exact opposite. God is in relentless pursuit of you. He “wants all of His children to choose to return to Him,” and He employs every possible measure to bring you back.
Our loving Father oversaw the Creation of this very earth for the express purpose of providing an opportunity for you and for me to have the stretching and refining experiences of mortality, the chance to use our God-given moral agency to choose Him, to learn and grow, to make mistakes, to repent, to love God and our neighbour, and to one day return home to Him.
He sent His precious Beloved Son to this fallen world to live the full range of the human experience, to provide an example for the rest of His children to follow, and to atone and redeem. Christ’s great atoning gift removes every roadblock of physical and spiritual death that would separate us from our eternal home.
Everything about the Father’s plan for His beloved children is designed to bring everyone home.”
I am very excited to hear all about my children's experiences on their High Adventure to Maui. Not only the good but also the challenges which make any experience memorable and worth it. I am grateful for God's perfect plan for us imperfect sons and daughters to return back to him and our Savior Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself which made it possible for all to return back home.
