Aloha Brothers & Sisters,
14 years ago Elder Holland gave a talk, called “Safety for the Soul”. He gave some of the most powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon I’ve ever heard. He talks about different elements of his testimony, and how he knows that the Book of Mormon is true. My favorite example of how he knows the Book of Mormon is true is a simple quote he shares from his great grandfather: “No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”
Think about that for a moment. Where did this Book come from? How in the world does it produce such Christians as it does? The most honest, meek, humble, neighbor-loving, God-fearing, Atonement partaking, Christ-like people I’ve ever met are those who have given themselves to study and faith in the Book of Mormon and restored Gospel. How could Joseph (or anyone) come up with such a book that could have this spiritual impact on people…A book that changes the nature of those who read it with the influence of the Holy Ghost.
Elder Holland goes on to say,
“If anyone is foolish enough or misled enough to reject 531 pages of a heretofore unknown text teeming with literary and Semitic complexity without honestly attempting to account for the origin of those pages—especially without accounting for their powerful witness of Jesus Christ and the profound spiritual impact that witness has had on what is now tens of millions of readers—if that is the case, then such a person, elect or otherwise, has been deceived; and if he or she leaves this Church, it must be done by crawling over or under or around the Book of Mormon to make that exit.”
In these Last Days - and they ARE the last days, our only hope for spiritual survival is by clinging to the Book of Mormon and the Gospel preached today by the modern day successor of The Prophet Joseph Smith - Russell M. Nelson. If we as a people don’t read it and abide by its precepts, how can we expect to be saved by its guiding wisdom and spiritual truth? Mormon and Moroni saw our day. They knew what our world was going to be like and exactly what needed to be included in the Book of Mormon as an abridgment of 1000 years of prophecy and prophets, wars and rumors of wars.
