Dear Kahalu'u Ward,

Last month I was visiting my parents back in the mainland

and had a chance to speak in their sacrament meeting. Man, I

was over 25 ½ years ago the last time I spoke in that building. It

was a special chance to be able to thank people who helped

shape my young life and reminisce about times past.

The topic I was given to speak about was “Centering Ones

Home on Jesus Christ”. The following is an excerpt from the end

of that talk which was focusing on the “The Family, Proclamation

to the World”.

At home I have a very special gift that a buddy of mine gave

me for a wedding present. When I was living on Maui my buddy

James was helping a guy from the ward renovate a home to flip.

When they removed some wall coverings, they discovered some

koa paneling, which this guy did not care to save. Well James as

a carpenter and builder knew the value of this koa paneling and

asked if he could have it and was told sure. Now koa is very rare

and not easy to come by and a protected tree in Hawaii. All koa

trees are accounted for and are illegal to cut down but once they

fall can be harvested. Well, he took a piece of this koa paneling

and with laser machine was able to inscribe on it “The Family: A

Proclamation to the World.” Now I almost brought it with me but

was afraid to transport on the plane in my luggage, but you can

see a picture of it here on my phone, pretty neat right? If you like

you can come and take a look later.

Now I’m not going to stand up here and read the whole thing to

you but some points to consider are:

  • We are all children of God created in his image.

  • Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal,

  • mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. Remember this

  • was 1995 talk about prophetic

  • Marriage is eternal.

  • Male and female are to have children within the bonds of

  • marriage.

  • As husband and wife, we have a solemn responsibility to

  • love and care for each other and for their children.

  • And family is ordained of God.

This is not all so I encourage everyone to go home and review

with your families this week at your family night “The Family: A

Proclamation to the World,” because it will ensure that we can

center our home around Jesus Christ.

It is my testimony that Families are forever, and the advisory

will do whatever it takes to tear down the institute of family. We

have a sacred duty as member of the church as directed by our

Prophet to proclaim this message and do everything possible to

strengthen our families and most importantly teach our children

the true importance of their future families, in the name of Jesus

Christ Amen.
