Kahalu'u Ward Message 6/25/23

Aloha Kahaluu Ohana, A few years back we realized that one of our coconut trees was damaging our house; the trunk and roots were pushing against the porch, and breaking the surrounding tile wall of the property. Danny and the kids worked one Saturday and cut the tree down, leaving a large stump about 4 feet high. Recently we’ve realized that even though we cut the tree a while back, its roots and stump have continued to make further damage to our porch and surrounding wall.

This experience reminded me of our spiritual foundation. Many times we have things that we feel we’ve cut out of our lives, maybe temporarily or for the moment, but unless we get in and uproot whatever it is that is keeping us from fully embracing the gospel of Jesus Christ, it will continue to weaken our foundation of faith.

“And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

Helaman 5:12

“More concerning than the prophesied earthquakes and wars [in the latter days] are the spiritual whirlwinds that can uproot you from your spiritual foundations and land your spirit in places you never imagined possible, sometimes with your barely noticing that you have been moved.”
