Kahalu'u Ward Message 6/2/24

Aloha Kahalu'u Ward,

In moments of trial and tribulation, we can find peace in knowing that our Heavenly Father watches over His chosen people. Throughout history, we see countless examples of God's protective hand shielding His children from harm.  In the Book of Mormon, we read about the Nephites who, when faithful, were delivered from many natural disasters.

In our own lives, we too can witness God’s protective care. This hit home for us this last Monday evening, when a 4.4 earthquake hit Italy where our son Maddux is currently serving, causing a great deal of building damage. All of the missionaries in Maddux’s zone had  just travelled to Rome for a zone conference on Tuesday, arriving Monday early evening.  As such, the missionaries in Pozzuoli, the directly impacted area, were not there during the earthquake, and free from harm or danger.  This was also the case with the missionaries serving in Lahaina during the recent wild fires. All of the missionaries, serving in that area, were not physically present at the time, having attended a meeting in an unaffected, safe place.

When we found this out, my mom said to me, “What a coincidence that Maddux wasn’t there at the time and not harmed by the earthquake.”  I said to her, “Mom, coincidences are just God’s way of remaining anonymous.”  I have no doubt that it was God’s doing to have His chosen servants, His select protected and out of any potential danger that day.

May we always remember that in the midst of our own life's “natural disasters” our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate protector.  By placing our trust in Him, we can find peace and safety.   We can find comfort and courage, knowing that God is always with us, protecting His chosen people from the potential harm and guiding us safely through the trials of life.

Howzit!

This past week was so much fun! There were so many good things that happened! Our friend Bond was baptized! He has been so amazing and we have seen so much growth from him! He faithfully follows Christ and receives so many blessings and miracles. Bond is the 4th person to be baptized in the PJ branch since I have been here. I feel so blessed that God allowed for me to be here to meet and help these individuals to come closer to Him.

On a more spiritual note, in Sacrament meeting yesterday Brother Tim Burton gave a really good talk about covenants. In his talk, he first spoke of when he used to serve in Japan and would sometimes drink this one soda. I'm sure many of you know this drink if I describe it to you because I don't know the name. But it is the soda in glass bottles that have a marble to keep it sealed. And to drink it you have to pop the marble down. Anyways he talked about how most people when they try to drink from it, they often will try and then the marble will come back to the top and prevent them from drinking. He said that the bottles actually have little indents to catch the marble so we can drink with no blockage. He related this to our lives and how many of us have marbles in our lives that prevent us from fully experiencing the blessing of the gospel. He then shared about how our covenants act as these indents to trap the marbles of our lives. So if we keep our covenants, we can fully partake of the blessing that Heavenly Father wants us to partake of.

But yup this week was awesome! Also we have transfers coming this week so I might be in a new area next P-Day. We shall see. Love you all!

Me ke aloha,

Elder Kekaula
