Kahalu'u Ward Message 5/5/24

Have you noticed all the colorful carp flags flying lately? In Japanese tradition, these koinobori are put on display to celebrate a child’s individuality and symbolize the wish we have for them to be strong and successful in life. As a parent, I often second-guess my ability to help the above happen for them.

But during last month’s General Conference, Elder Gerard of the Seventy spoke on a topic that helped me reevaluate how I approach obtaining this “wish”.  His talk was focused on the significance of integrity. And what comes from having integrity? Everything that the koinobori represents! He mentions that, “Living a life of integrity requires us to be true to God, to each other, and to our divine identity.” Now knowing that this is where I should begin my efforts gave me the reassurance that I am doing something right as a mom. If I focus on teaching my kids to be true in these three areas, then they will have the foundation to continue to develop this Christlike attribute on their own every day :)

Ke aloha nō,

Kyra Chun

Kahalu’u Primary President

Missionary Corner

First things first. I got my first trainee. His name is Elder Summers. He grew up in Florida but just recently lived in Australia for a time. He's mixed. The crazy part is that his dad is from Hawaii. Specifically Keolu ward. His grandpa is Keith Summers. It was crazy to make that connection first thing. The closest connection is that his uncle is President Char. Crazy

The other biggest miracle is that our friend Jason got baptized and confirmed this past week. We've been joking that Elder Summers helped baptize someone before his first Pday and even first new person found. It's has been awesome to help be apart of it. Jason literally could have been taught by anyone but we had the opportunity to be apart of his journey. It's was slightly stressful to plan it all out but we have an awesome ward mission leader who did a ton of work. It was pretty much smooth for the most part. Maybe a couple retries with the actual ordinance but nothing too crazy.

This past week I've been reading through acts. I've really enjoyed this verse found in Acts 5:41. "And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name."  I really enjoyed this reaction from the apostles after being tried for treason and beaten by the Pharisees. They walked away rejoicing because they suffered on Christ's name.

Their testimony and love for the Savior overcame any worldly trials. They were not ashamed to he disciples even in the hardest time. Their faith is a great example to me and I live pondering what more can I do to prepare myself to stand firm in the faith that Jesus Christ is real and He loves me and all of Heavenly Fathers children. It is just powerful. I invite all of you to ponder your testimony of the Savior and write it down. I'm going to do the same. I know He lives and is leading us today back to the Father.

Aloha,

Elder Kaonohi
