Kahalu'u Ward Message 5/19/24

Aloha Kahaluu Ward,

In Doctrine and Covenants 50:23-25 it reads:

23 And that which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness.

24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.

25 And again, verily I say unto you, and I say it that you may know the truth, that you may chase darkness from among you;

The missionaries came for dinner the other night and shared a message on YouTube  from Elder Bednar, entitled Patterns of Light: The Light of Christ.

In the video Elder Bednar talks about how each person is born with the Light of Christ and how our choices can strengthen or diminish this light within us. Pondering this idea more deeply I’ve come to understand that all we can take with us from this world is the knowledge we gain and the Light of Christ we were given.

There is a parable of a rich man who gave his servants each 5 talents with the expectation that they use and grow what he had given them. I believe when we stand before the Lord, like the parable of the talents, what we make of the Light of Christ we each received will also be evaluated. Elder Bednar spoke on how the Light of Christ encourages us to be good and to do good and as we yield, or reject this encouragement, our light can grow or fade. I know Heavenly Father desires each of his children to shine brightly and that the glory He radiates can be ours one day as we diligently accumulate more of the Light of Christ in our lives through being good and doing good continually.

I pray we can have the faith and diligence to fuel this light within us, to help others to do the same, and to chase darkness from among us until that perfect day.

With much aloha,

Sister Ka’iulani Lau

Missionary Corner

These past few days have been amazing! Being a missionary really helps me to see life from a new angle and to simply see the many miracles we all have DAILY! I have been facing some challenges and small trials, but at the same time seeing many miracles that act as boosters and small charges of motivation!

Here are some of these miracles!

1) On Saturday my companionship decided to go to a place called SS2 for dinner. Everyone was telling us we had to try the food there! And man it was soo good! On the way there we were able to meet this guy named Richard Moses. He was such a nice man what was very interested in the Book of Mormon. We will try to meet him again this week!

2) Last night we were able to meet this guy named Gavin. He is originally from China but moved to Malaysia for school. After a short conversation, we stated our purpose and immediately Gavin said "I want to learn!" He was so amazing!

3) The last miracle was our friend Bond decided on his own that he wanted to fast again this past weekend. He said "I want the extra blessings and also to lose weight!" Bond is a very solid friend and has so much faith!

But yes that was my week! Love you all

Me ke aloha,

Elder Kekaula
