Aloha Brothers and Sisters,
This year’s Ward Conference theme, “Go forward in Christ” was inspired by the scripture D&C 128:22 which reads:
“22 Brethren, shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing. Let the dead speak forth anthems of eternal praise to the King Immanuel, who hath ordained, before the world was, that which would enable us to redeem them out of their prison; for the prisoners shall go free”
Like for many of us, moving forward and not looking back can be difficult at times. We might hold on too long to anger, sorrow or sin. This can halt our ability to grow more like our Father in heaven. We might dwell on things of the past, which prevent us from forgiving others or being truly forgiven ourselves.
We might fail to fully understand the Atonement and our Savior’s role in coming to this earth. That lack of understanding sometimes doesn’t allow us to “Go forward” as quickly as we should or could. Lucky for us, what we do know is that through our Savior, and that which is as sure as the sun rising each day, WE WIN THIS BATTLE! We are on the right side. We are on the Lord’s side. This gospel truth allows us to “Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad.”
As we stand, with courage, for what is right and provide the world with an righteous example through Christ-like words, actions and service, the prophet Joseph Smith has promised us “glad and glorious tidings.”
May we each focus on the peace, comfort and joy this knowledge brings to our lives and “Go forward and not backward…on to the VICTORY!
