Dear Kahalu'u Ward, The gospel of Jesus Christ gives us a place where we know we can "belong". Yesterday, I was able to witness the sweet baptism of 8 year old Kalea Tyler. She chose to make her first covenant with God and begin her journey in life numbered among our Savior's fold. As we congregate each Sabbath Sunday to renew our Sacrament covenants, we remain attached to His fold. Sometimes, we lose our way in the pursuit of finding other forms of belonging. When we come to church, we are reminded that Jesus Christ is our good shepherd, our protector in the night, and he knows and cares for each one of us. "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." John 10:14. If we are lost, he will search for us. "What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing!" Luke 14:4-5
No matter where I have been in life, I have always felt that I had a sense of direction, and a place where I "belonged" because of the love of the Savior, because of the loving members of the ward, and because of the teaching of His church, even the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
