Aloha Ward Family,
This month’s Liahona’s “Ministering Principles” is entitled “Simple Service Can Be Meaningful; Don’t hesitate because you wonder if your offering is too small.”
I’m afraid I have a tendency to do exactly that. I’ll overthink something and end up not doing anything because I don’t want to bother someone or intrude. Haunani Jones said she used to feel the same way, but when they lost everything in a house fire a few years ago, she found herself on the receiving end of service. She said that EVERY text, call, food drop off, etc. meant so much to her. Now she doesn’t think twice.
“Never resist a generous impulse.”
Sister Jean B. Bingham, Relief Society General President taught, “Sometimes we think we have to do something grand and heroic to “count” as serving our neighbors. Yet simple acts of service can have profound effects on others - as well as on ourselves.”
We’re reminded in Alma 37:6 that “…by small and simple things are great things brought to pass…”
With love,
Cathy Kaonohi
Relief Society President
