Kahalu'u Ward Message 2/18/24

Aloha Kahaluu Ward Family,

Do you want to be happy? What makes you unhappy?

President Russell M. Nelson said: “If you want to be miserable, break the commandments—and never repent. If you want joy, stay on the covenant path.” Isn’t it simple to be happy? Just make covenants and keep them in your lives.

President Thomas S. Monson taught:

“The greatest lesson we can learn in mortality is that when God speaks and we obey, we will always be right.”

“When we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier, more fulfilling, and less complicated. Our challenges and problems will be easier to bear, and we will receive [God’s] promised blessings.”

Brother Paliku Kahalepuna Sunday School President

Missionary Corner

My lil spiritual thought comes from the story of David & Goliath. We all know the story, Goliath is this massive 9 foot tall Phillistine monster of a man that is calling out the Israelites for one of their men to throw hands. David is this scrawny Shepard boy who is the only one who steps to the plate to take him on & eventually slays him with only a rock and a sling. But in looking more into the story recently, I was taken aback by the strength of David's faith as he faces this behemoth of a man right before battle.

What a G. He doesn't fear Goliath at ALL for two reasons; 1) Goliath stands as someone who defies God & 2) David has the ultimate faith that the Lord will deliver Goliath into his hands to save his people. And what happens? BOOM. Even giants fall.

We each have our own personal Goliaths in our lives. It could be something major, it could be something small and personal. But if it's holding us back in anyway of recieving blessings, I invite to trust in the Lord, trust in His will and His timing, and take your giants head on. My toxic trait is always thinking that I can always knock out my Goliaths myself without any help, but I know now that when I trust in the Lord that He'll deliver these Goliaths unto us. With faith, trust, and the power of the Lord, we can take out every obstacle in our way.

Love, Elder Afualo
