Kahalu'u Ward Message 11/13/22

Aloha Kahalu'u Ward,

Elder Bednar’s talk about the parable of the wedding feast teaches us about our priorities we choose in our lives. Part of that parable goes like this:

“Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

“But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise.”

Instead of attending the wedding, which was advertised well in advance, many intended guests “made light of it” and chose to do something else that day. Their responsibilities to farm and business interest was more important to them that day, rather than partaking of the joyous occasion of the wedding held by the King.

What can the wedding spoken of in the parable be likened to in our lives? Sunday church activities? Temple attendance? Ministering? Youth activities? Leadership training meetings? Anything gospel and service related….right?

I find it interesting that Jesus used the farmer and the businessman in this parable rather than the Sunday football fanatic, or sabbath day beach goer. You can argue that the farmer and the business man have very legitimate reasons for not attending the wedding feast. Who would feed and protect the animals if the farmer left them alone? What about that important income the businessman needs to keep his business afloat?

I think the message the Savior is trying to get across here is that we all have legitimate responsibilities that could take us away from the “wedding feast” - but the only priorities worth rearranging our lives for is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He died for us. We should live for him.
