Kahalu'u Ward Message 1/21/24

Aloha Kahalu`u Ward,

Key Project had a community event this week, where they set up 2 large telescopes in the middle of Kahalu'u Regional park to look at the moon and stars. Zion and I attended and stood in a short line to view the moon. When it was finally our turn we looked into the view finder, and unfortunately, we couldn't see anything! Disappointed we stepped away to give the next person a chance, when the facilitator noticed our indifferent reaction and said, "Wait, let's check where you are; we may need to adjust... the sky is always moving." After a quick minor adjustment, we looked in again to behold the beautiful, bright moon shining and glorious!

This fun activity staring into the heavens made me realize that we are in constant need of a spiritual adjustment. In this weeks Come Follow Me lesson we are reminded of Lehis vision of the tree of life. With all its visual highlights, this vision reminds us to hold to the iron rod and stay on the covenant path. Many started with the best of intentions but without constant and consistent adjustments like scripture reading, family prayer and church attendance, we can easily be distracted by those in the tall and spacious building and veer off course and get lost.  I learned that starry night in Kahalu'u, we may need to readjust, look UP, and remember that our Heavenly Father loves us, and wants us to return to Him. With some consistent and loving adjustments, our view of the path will be bright, brilliant, and focused on the way home.

Aloha,

Melanie Afualo Relief Society President, Kahalu'u Ward

Missionary Corner

I've been thinking alot about what it means to keep trying. Sometimes it feels as though it is impossible to achieve perfection and really it is, in this world at least. We are asked to strive, to look forward to perfection in Jesus Christ. Sometimes so much that we forget the importance of trying. I really like when Elder Ucthdorf said, "Discipleship is not about doing things perfectly; it’s about doing things intentionally. It is your choices that show what you truly are, far more than your abilities." When we put a bigger focus on trying, then it's easier to focus on the Savior. When we focus on perfection it distracts us from our Savior. He is there to help us, encourage us, help us feel his love. Let's allow him in our hearts by turning to Him for growth. Knowing that we are trying, that's all that matters.

Love,

Elder Kaonohi
