Kahalu'u Ward Message 6/4/23

Aloha Kahalu’u Ward,

Last Tuesday, we had a devotional given to us by Sister Bonnie Cordon, President of the Young Womens & she focused on trusting in Christ and having faith in Him. She had brought up the story of the Jaredites from the book of Ether & how they were commanded by the Lord to make these barges to use to go out into the seas to the promised land, only problem being that these designs given from the Lord didn't have a way to steer the boats as well as no openings for them to breathe. When she was talking about this story I thought about what I'd be thinking if I was put in that situation & honestly, I'd probably be super doubtful and question a bit about the security of these barges. But the Jaredites had strong faith as it says in Ether 6:4 :

4 And it came to pass that when they had prepared all manner of "4 And it came to pass that when they had prepared all manner of food, that thereby they might subsist upon the water, and also food for their flocks and herds, and bwhatsoever beast or animal or fowl that they should carry with them—and it came to pass that when they had done all these things they got aboard of their vessels or barges, and set forth into the sea, commending themselves unto the Lord their God." , that thereby they might subsist upon the water, and also food for their flocks and herds, and whatsoever beast or animal or fowl that they should carry with them—and it came to pass that when they had done all these things they got aboard of their vessels or barges, and set forth into the sea, commending themselves unto the Lord their God." 4 And it came to pass that when they had prepared all manner of afood, that thereby they might subsist upon the water, and also food for their flocks and herds, and bwhatsoever beast or animal or fowl that they should carry with them—and it came to pass that when they had done all these things they got aboard of their vessels or barges, and set forth into the sea, commending themselves unto the Lord their God."

To me personally, this verse was really profound given the context behind it. They did as much as they could to prepare and fortify themselves, then they strapped up and trusted in the Lord. That ability to trust in the Lord and follow his will despite whatever doubts we may have is something that I took note of & have tried to apply it. Proverbs 3:5-6 :Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Love
