Kahalu'u Ward Message 10/19/25

During my life I have experienced the calling of a new prophet 6 times.  I can remember growing up with Spencer W. Kimball was our prophet and I remember where my family was living when he passed away.  He had a distinct gravely voice, and wasn't a very large man, but I always felt there was something about him that was important, especially when we got to listen to him in general conference twice a year.

When President Kimball passed away I remember learning about our new Prophet President Ezra Taft Benson and how he had been the secretary of agriculture and would start meetings with a prayer.  As a primary child this was impressive that a member of the church could have this type of influence in government as to be able to have a simple prayer to start a meeting outside of church.

And then on to Pres Gordon B. Hinckley, then Pres Thomas S. Monson, Russel M. Nelson, and now Dallin H Oaks.  I will not go on about what I learned from each of these prophets but I will say that as I have grown older my relationship with each consecutive prophet has matured which should be the natural way of things.  As a child you only know and realize so much but as you grow as a teenager, young adult and then more mature adult your knowledge and testimony of things grows and develops.

I have written a letter to an apostle while in the Missionary Training Center who replied back and later became the prophet.  I have met and listened to an apostle while in the mission field who later became the prophet.  Both of these experiences have occurred to me to help me build my faith and testimony of our living prophets.  It is up to each one of us to listen, to study and pray of the truthfulness of this gospel and church and if in fact Dallin H Oaks is the Lord’s prophet on earth today leading the church.

“Desires dictate our priorities, priorities shape our choices, and choices determine our actions.”

Dallin H. Oaks

It is my testimony and one that I share and teach to our young family that Jesus is the Christ and that President Dallin H. Oaks has been called at this time to lead the Savior's church as the prophet, Amen.

This week we had the opportunity to help prepare 4 young boys for baptism. Theres timo, matthew, iose, and pitone they moved from samoa just 3 months ago so they speak little english which is why we were asked to help. Theyre the most ulavale kids ever cant get them to sit still, theyre hilarious always vracking so many jokes. Talking to them for hours this past week has made my samoan so much better. Then seeing them get baptized om saturday was such a blessing to witness.

I couldve chosen like a million things to talk about from conference but for now ill talk about my favorite talk from the conference which was given by Elder Dieter F Uchdorf, he talked about planes and pilots which if yk me caught my attention immediately!

ree

He talked about how even though it used to be second nature to him, now, years after retirement he was unconfident. He related it to our lives reminding us to be good at something we need to stay consistent he says "Simply put, discipleship takes self-discipline." Being disciplined is HARDDD but self discipline is TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR OWN LIFE !! It will take time, its a life long endeavor but as elder uchdorf says "You left heaven to come here, but heaven has never left you!" So use that heavenly help. Alofa aku,

Elder Fano
