Aloha Kahalu’u Ward!

From Roots Tech 2025, I recently learned about some changes in how we go about our temple and family history work.  Per Elder Kevin Hamilton: “Ofttimes, we focus first on genealogy, which leads us to our ancestors, which leads us to participating in ordinances and making covenants in the temple, which then binds us to the Savior. That is wonderful, but we should flip that script. The Savior comes first. We seek a closer relationship with Him, so we go to the house of the Lord and receive ordinances and make covenants with Him, binding us to Him. Then we enable that for our deceased ancestors by seeking them out and performing temple ordinances for them.” See: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/liahona/2024/08/06-an-unprecedented-time-for-temple-and-family-history-work?lang=eng

With this change, earlier this month, I had the opportunity to visit the Laie Temple and do some work for four family members on my mother’s side.  I didn’t know a lot about them, but I knew when and where they had lived and that their lives likely revolved around Iowa farming.  This was made possible because the LDS Tools app on our phones has a feature called “Temple and Family History.”  Here you can add names to the Prayer Roll, schedule temple appointments, and also find family names that are waiting for ordinance work.  I am grateful for inspired technology that has helped me grow closer to the Lord, and to be able to learn about, and serve, my deceased family members.  I hope that this helps you do so as well!
