“When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” – Mosiah 2:17

Kahalu'u Ward Ohana,

Last week we received return flight information for our Elder Afualo (April 23rd! Woo hoo!) and I had a realization that filled my heart with gratitude—our son, Elder Mason Afualo, will soon be returning home from his mission in Auckland, New Zealand! As I thought about this, I couldn’t help but reflect on all the people who have contributed to his journey—not just in these two years of service but throughout his entire life.

So many of you have played a role in shaping who he is today. Those who have taught him in Primary, Sunday School, and youth programs, those who have coached him in sports, and those who have given him words of encouragement along the way. Many of you have helped support his missionary fund or simply shared your love and prayers for our family. Each of these acts of service, whether big or small, has made a difference.

This reminds me of the way the Savior works among us. In our Kahaluʻu Ward, we see firsthand the power of a loving and united community. When we come together to lift and support one another—whether it’s helping a young man serve a mission, strengthening a struggling family, or simply offering a kind word—we are following Christ’s example. His love is manifest in our willingness to serve, and we see the fruits of that service in the lives of those around us.

As Elder Afualo comes home, I know he will return not just as our son but as a son of this ward, of this village. His growth and faith are a reflection of the love and support he has received from each of you. And just as he has been blessed by this community, may we continue to give that same love and support to others—especially those who need our help the most.

May we always remember that the Savior works through us. When we come together to serve, to teach, to uplift, and to love, we help shape the future of those around us, just as so many of you have helped shape our son.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” – John 13:35

Missionary Corner

Talofa lava frienda and fams !!

I've made one year as a missionary!! One year ago today, i was set apart as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In Proverbs 17:17 it reads, "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." I'm not sure if i shared this scripture yet but it is one that i have a testimony of, especially since coming on my mission. Since starting my mission, I've made friends and family out of friends. I've formed so many life long bonds with other missionaries and the people of Samoa. But more than anyone else, the person that comes to mind the most when i read this scripture is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout every trial and tribulation, success and failiure, acceptance and rejection, He has been there. He has been my friend loving me through it all and my brother being there with me, enduring it all. I truly couldn't have made it this far without His love, help, and guidance. I can testify that trials are ways to bring ourselves closer to our brother, Jesus Christ. He knows us, He loves us, and He is waiting for us with open arms.

Alofas,

Sister Fano <3
