 Kahalu’u Ward,

Konnichiwa!!! The Tano Family is in Japan for spring break.... 17 of us to be exact! It's a chance for many of us to be united after being apart for many years. Most of you know Brett and Summer and their children, who are in our ward, but I also have a brother Keao, who lives in California, and my sister Amy, who lives in Utah. I am the oldest of my 3 siblings, and our parents are Darrel and Colleen. We had this trip planned out for over a year, but as unfortunate circumstances played out, my dad had to have an emergency surgery 2 weeks ago, and cannot travel due to doctor's orders. We've keep in touch with him daily, but some things are just not the same.

On our first day in Tokyo, we visited the Tokyo temple. We toured the Visitor's Center and walked the temple grouds, before I ultimately mustered up the courage to ask to meet the Tokyo Temple President. You're probably wondering, why would I do that??! Well, prior to leaving, I mentioned to Elder Hosoka (who is a new missionary in our ward) that I would be visiting his hometown of Tokyo, Japan. He was so excited to hear that we were going to the Tokyo temple, and I wondered why. He mentioned to me that his grandfather was the current Tokyo Temple President, President Aoki. Luckily, the timing was right and I was able to share with President Aoki that his grandson was a hard worker, and that he is doing really well. He was thrilled that I stopped to see him and share that.

This beautiful plan of our Heavenly Father, which allows each of us to have the chance to belong to families, is a critical part to us grasping the same understanding that he does of knowing LOVE. Whether a grandparent's love, a parent's love, a sibling's love, a child's love... Love is an eternal principle that can be felt and understood through our mortality.

In my mind, I like to read Moses 1:39 replacing "This" and "the" with "We" and "our" because it personalizes it for me. We are His work and His glory, to bring to pass our immortality, and our eternal lives. It is my unshakable testimony that we are able to have eternal families, eternal love, and eternal progression through Jesus Christ our Savior, and Heavenly Father's beautiful plan. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love, Bishop Tano
