Kahalu'u Ward Message 11/17/24

Aloha Kahaluu Ohana,

I've really enjoyed reading and studying the Book of Mormon this year. Even after reading it a few times, there is so much to learn. Did you know that Christ visited the people of Nephi many months after his resurrection? I had always thought that it was right after- like, no more than a few days!

My daughter, Ellie loves to read, and she's been doing pretty good about reading the Book of Mormon as well. In the primary presentation she shared an experience she had from her reading. She had been reading a series of books about fantasy and dragons that were supposed to be appropriate for her age. She really got into the series, reading 9 or 10 of the books, even having a birthday-themed party about the books. Then she got to book 11 and started to notice things that weren't appropriate and made her uncomfortable. It got worse with each new book, to the point that she realized it was "making her feel guilty". She knew for herself that the spirit was telling her it was wrong, and even though she really loved the series, she knew to stop it. Later that night, in her reading the Book of Mormon, she read about Sherem. She said: “Mom, this is so amazing! I feel like the verses I was reading are exactly what I am experiencing right now. I read about Sherem how he is luring everybody to not believe in Christ. It’s like I am being lured to do something that isn’t right. It’s just so amazing!” Her first spiritual message from the Book of Mormon.

She also later told me, laughing- "Sheez, they have bad words in the Book of Mormon!" (See Mosiah 12:5, Ha!). I love the Book of Mormon, and the more I read it, the more I know that it is the word of God for us today, to testify of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the restoration of His Church and Priesthood, through Joseph Smith.

Aloha,

Kaihaku Chun

Missionary Corner

It is crazy! I never thought that this week would come so quickly. This is my last email that I will be writing home as a missionary. I am a bit in shock about the whole thing because it is so real but I don't want to believe it.

I have loved my mission and the many experiences that I have gained here. I am grateful for the special opportunity that I have had to serve as the Lord's servant here in the beautiful countries of Malaysia and Singapore. I have grown and been stretched in so many ways. I am grateful for the many people who have blessed my life and for those that I was able to bless and help also.

I think that the biggest lesson that I have learned on my mission is that "God is our loving Heavenly Father" and "Jesus is the Christ and my Savior". Before my mission I barely had a testimony of the church and who God is. I knew about Him and knew that He was good, but my relationship was not very personal. I am grateful for my mission because I have gained a personal testimony and created a personal relationship with Him.

But I am grateful for this amazing experience. To those that are preparing or deciding to serve a mission, DO IT!!! Don't let your doubts or fears block the way! I can promise to you that a mission is where you NEED and WANT to be! The mission will bless you so much. If you're being prayerful and "not receiving an answer", sometimes God wants us to act first.

Ether 12:6

6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.

Dengan kasih,

Elder Kekaula
