Kahalu'u Ward Message 11/10/24

Aloha Kahaluu Ohana!

After Mormon died in battle, Moroni was the last remaining Nephite left alive.  “I even remain alone…I have not friends nor whither to go” (Mormon 8:3,5).  The amount of despair that Moroni could have felt during this time, I’m sure could have been overwhelming.  Not only was Moroni the last of his people, but he also had the Lamanites hunting him down, what a formidable situation.

How easy would it be for any one of us to choose to give up and give into despair at a time when we are left all alone? But miraculously this is not how Moroni felt, “the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on” (Mormon 8:22).  From an eternal perspective Moroni knew he was not keeping this record for him, but for us.  “I speak unto you as if ye were present,” and “I know that ye shall have my words” (Mormon 8:359:30).

It has been a wonderful experience to read and study the Book of Mormon during this year.  To be able to have the Book of Mormon as a focus each week during our family nights has been an opportunity to watch the knowledge and testimonies of our children grow.  I’ve taken pleasure in knowing that our oldest has already completed the Book of Mormon in her own personal study and has had many late nights where I have told her she needs to finish up and go to bed.  How can any father be displeased when their child is hiding in their closet at night with a flashlight to read the Book of Mormon.

As Mormon of old sacrificed his final years of his life to preserve the Book of Mormon, may we take advantage of that sacrifice and find peace in our hearts as we study the Book of Mormon daily.

Mahalo,

Bro. Jeff Tom 2nd Counselor, Kahalu'u' Ward

Missionary Corner

MALO SOIFUA FAMILY AND FRIENDS !! 2 weeks down here in the MTC already. I cant belive its already time for thanksgiving and christmas time is flying like crazy. I love being a missionary its so cool being here. Utah is really weird though I dont understand why day light savings is a thing but i got an hour extra sleep last night HAHAHA. Everyday here i make so many memories we laugh so hard.

SNOW : This past tuesday was freezing cold on our way to class my hands were gettung numb. When we were in class we looked out the window and it started sprinkling snow everyone seemed so unphased and then theres me and elder tuitele freaking out During our first break we ran down 4 stories to go in the snow. I think you could tell which elders were from Hawaii !! It started dumping snow later on it was so cool, luckily my puffer jacket came in that day thanks mom and dad !!! i cant wait for christmas.

Spiritual Thought:

This week we had a devotional Elder David L. Buckner talked and it was so good. He related our time on the earth as the World series of all Dispensations so basically Ball out do your best to be like Jesus. In life theres always risks to the things we do but there is no risk to this, we know who wins in the end and its GOD !! He talked alot about trials while being on a mission and he dropped a BAR "Without friction we have no forward motion" that really made me appreciate all my struggles. He also told us to basically leave it all out there to be the best everyday which i loved.

For anyone who's trying to make the decision to serve a mission DO IT. Its for sure not easy but its such a blessing. There is someone out there than needs YOU !
