Kahalu'u Ward Message 1/12/25

Aloha Kahalu’u Ward,
This past week brought intense wind, that damaged a tent, which sheltered piles of storage. The wind blew the entire set up away. It was crazy! My mom was home alone cleaning the house when she got a call from Aunty Chanté asking if we needed any help because she saw the disaster going on from the roadside. My mom, thinking nothing was wrong, said no until Aunty Chanté informed her about the tent’s situation. Instead of feeling intense amounts of stress and worry, there were huge amounts of relief as the Kekaula ʻohana stayed for hours to take down, rebuild, and organize the entire windy disaster. My mom would have had to deal with our tent and the whirlwind of emotions that stormed through while trying to settle everything all by herself. However, the call she received that day blessed her with care and support like no other.
The winds that caused trouble on that day are like the winds in our daily lives. It is the trials we face and the strong and heavy emotions we feel. Like Aunty Chanté and her ʻohana, we as disciples can supply relief through the service we offer others. My family wouldn’t have been able to fix our problem as easily if it wasn’t for the selfless acts shared. In Mosiah 2:17 we learn that when we are in the service of our fellow beings we are only in the service of our God. Let us continue to serve others and serve God through selflessness and charity. YOU can make a change in someone’s life!
Mosiah 2:17
And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
Me ke aloha,

Talofa lava friends and fams !
We had a busy fun pday so just wanna throw a quick update together for yall so lessgoooo
Highlights:
- we recently started teaching lessons to our new friends Mataʻu. Mataʻu is a referral from a member who's actually her nephew. She's such a sweet girl (and a PHD candidate at Yale) and she sounds like she already has a testimony of so many things including the priesthood! We're loving Mataʻus progress and can't wait to see her continue to grow
- I'm not sure if i shared it before but due to some bedbug problems, we now have two other sisters living with us and it's been super fun especially when there's something to celebrate...like the new year hehehe we rang in the new year with a bunch of Martinellis and our little plastic champagne glasses. Crazy that it's 2025. I can now say that i go home this year but i don't really WANT to say it
-My spiritual thought this week comes from a talk we studied with our mission parents, the Taggs, this past week. In his talk "Converted Unto the Lord", Elder David A. Bednar talks about the difference between testimony and conversion and also how they work and rely on each other. He says, "Conversion is an offering of self, of love, and of loyalty we give to God in gratitude for the gift of testimony." I absolutely love this quote. I think we often think a testimony is something WE grew and comes because WE did something. While we did do many things to gain that testimony, it is a gift from God and for that, we should show our gratitude. As Elder Bednar expresses, we show gratitude through offereing our self, love, and loyalty. Like our covenants, having a testimony isn't a one and done. It is an ongoing and enduring cycle. I know that as we persevere through this process, we will continue to be constantly converted to Christ.
